Wow. MySpace certainly is dominating…and I thought the Facebook was pervasive. Not hardly. So here is my question: Do you think social networking sites like MySpace will continue to grow in coming months and years or will all of the exposés about real-life internet stalkers and other crazies scare some privacy into people? And, do you think the new security measures will be enough to protect underage users and satisfy concerned parent groups and lawmakers?

Wade Cothran email - www.loveliestvillage.com

Obviously myspace.com has no real competition. The only other site to give myspace a match is facebook.com, and it couldn't possibly be a threat considering its only users have to own a university email account.

Janet email - www.marqui.com/blog

I think (as do many others) that Friendster may have a shot at competing with MySpace. Especially with their recent $10M infusion of cash.

I believe their plans to focus on 20-somethings who are getting jobs in new cities is a great idea.

I also fervently believe that social networking sites are here to stay. They're clearly not for everyone, and are fraught with potential fraudulent activities, but the online authentication of identity is bound to be coming soon... technologists are working hard to that end. And proof of digital identity will be what's needed to satisfy concerned parents and lawmakers. Kids will keep meeting kids in these new, global "malls."

Dallas Perry email -

I think that the main problem with MySpace and Facebook is the fact that now high schoolers, college students, and anyone else who has an email address can become friends and contacts. I think these networks are great for keeping in touch with your friends, but I also think they're dangerous. Online predators can find so many targets so very easliy. It was better when the different groups were separated. I think, as with many things in the world, these networks are meant for good, but there are certain people that will mess it up for the rest of us.

Dallas Perry email -

I think that MySpace and Facebook were better when highschool, college, and anyone with an email address were separated. These networks are good for keeping in touch with people, but its just too easy for online predators to find targets now. These networks were started with good intentions and reason but, like many things in the world, there are people who take it to a different level and ruin it for the rest of us.

Adam email -

While MySpace currently dominates the online social networks, I don't believe that they will be the leading network in a few years. I like Facebook's concept better than MySpace and believe that it will continue to grow in the coming years. I think something will come along in the next couple of years that will become the new online social network, but still has the same concept as MySpace. I agree with Wade that they are here to stay, but they will continue to change the way we use them and for what we use them for.

Stephanie email - stephanie2006@prblogs.org

I also wonder if these social networking sites will continue to grow in the coming months/years. From personal experience, social networking sites were exciting at first but quickly lost their appeal. As is always the case, something new will arrive soon to take the place of the current leading social networking sites.

Kristin email -

I am not surprised by the fact MySpace dominates the social networking market compared to facebook. MySpace allows anyone to join the site, whereas facebook requires you to have a university e-mail address.

As an avid Facebook user, I have chosen not to join MySpace because of security reasons. Just knowing that online predators can easily look you up is enough to drive me away from the MySpace site.

I do realize these precautions do apply to Facebook as well, but I am careful enough as to who is able to see my information and Facebook requires more restrictions as to who can have an account.

However, recently Facebook has been changing and I feel the site is trying to keep up with the leading MySpace site.

It is hard to say when the line will be drawn and when these sites will lose their popularity.

As a person who has grown up in the technology age, I have seen many on-line trends come and go. So I'm sure at some point, there will be something new and better than these social networking sites.

Janet email - www.marqui.com/blog

I'm anxious to hear what y'all think about the new FaceBook when it rolls out a homepage full of RSS feeds - it'll be like MyYahoo, and you'll be able to immediately see who's recently published anything new. It's an interesting departure for them.

Someone tell me what they think, ok?

Kristin email -

The "new facebook" appeared yesterday and the entire campus seems to be talking about how facebook is ruined. It lists everything anyone has done on facebook and in my opinion, completely violated our privacy. I already don't even want to log on to my facebook and I know other students feel the same way. In fact, there are already facebook groups forming about how facebook needs to go back to basics. I don't think the new style is going over to well with facebook users.

Duncan email - www.bigdreams.ca

I think it has a lot to do with the MSN Messenger integration with myspace than anything else.

Puppy email - www.uniquekidtoy.com/wholesaletoy/

It's like Youtube on video content and Google on search engines. Wonderful and quick growth to the top. The time will show is for long this growh or just rapid

Danielle email - danielle2006.prblogs.org/

It's not surprising that MySpace is so popular. It can be compared to Facebook, but for a long time MySpace was the other popular social networking site that didn't require the user to have an email address from a school. Lately, Facebook has taken an interesting turn, allowing users to see everything that another user has changed, called a "live feed." All that has been heard are complaints, like that Facebook is now "stalker-friendly." MySpace still allows for a little bit of privacy and not to mention the ability to design your MySpace page according to your personality or whatever you feel like.

People have a great need to stay in touch with people and MySpace is just one of those ways and it will continue to be popular as long as people like one another.
